Book Summary:
Emme, Sophie, Ethan, and Carter are seniors at a performing arts school, getting ready for their Senior Showcase recital, where the pressure is on to appeal to colleges, dance academies, and professionals in show business. For Sophie, a singer, it’s been great to be friends with Emme, who composes songs for her, and to date Carter, soap opera heartthrob who gets plenty of press coverage. Emme and Ethan have been in a band together through all four years of school, but wonder if they could be more than just friends and bandmates. Carter has been acting since he was a baby, and isn’t sure how to admit that he’d rather paint than perform. The Senior Showcase is going to make or break each of the four, in a funny, touching, spectacular finale that only Elizabeth Eulberg could perform.
Review:
There was a small time period where I happened upon multiple performing arts books and read them all – I love the sub genre. VIRTUOSITY kind of kick started it all, and I continued on with books about theater, singing, dance, music – what a wonderful reading streak!
I attended NCIBA at the end of 2011 and shrieked a bit when I was given a copy of TAKE A BOW by Elizabeth Eulberg. I loved PROM AND PREJUDICE (my first Eulberg novel), so performing arts + an author I know I like?!? Yayyyy.
The book is from four different points of view, which allows the reader to possibly connect with four different characters – and considering most teenagers don’t have a high school experience like these four did, having several people to learn about helps the connection in different ways.
I enjoyed how each of the characters intertwined, especially because they all had different goals and personalities. Emme is kind of the main character that ties them together, and I liked her the most, so that worked out well for me :)
TAKE A BOW is a delightful addition to the contemporary performing arts genre!

I am nervous about the 4 points of view, but it sounds like it really works in this one! I love the performance genre too.
Thanks for the great review.

I mean this in a really positive way… I think this book kind of sounds like the Hilary Duff movie Raise Your Voice :) I looove movies with singing and dancing, and would love to read more books that are similar. Thanks for the recommendation!

Ha! I haven’t seen that movie, but that’s a fun comparison :)
