1. What movie do you wish had a sequel?
I love the movie The Goonies (1985). It has a bit of everything—car chases, guns, kidnapping, murder, sweet kisses, pirates, lost treasure, and cute boys. Maybe there’s an opportunity for One-Eyed Willie’s ship to resurface.
2. Which zoo exhibit do you like to visit first?
If there’s a Przewalski’s Horse exhibit, I am there. I also like meerkats and otters.
3. How many scarves do you own?
I have about a dozen of the summer variety and a half dozen winter ones. I’m surprised the numbers aren’t reversed—I am from Buffalo, New York, where the latter is much more useful.
Even my horse, Mr. Pots, owns a scarf. He got it for Christmas from my cousin’s daughter who bought it at her school craft fair—she didn’t want him to get chilly. He’s even a good sport about wearing it.
4. Describe your favorite pair of shoes.
I just bought a pair of red Converse All Stars to match my cover art.
5. Tell us which household chore you enjoy the most.
I must like to clean the kitchen. It looks so shiny when I’m done. So some days my kitchen is spotless and the rest of the house is, well, not so much.
About Love and Leftovers:
My wish
is to fall
cranium over Converse
in dizzy, daydream-worthy
love.
When her parents split, Marcie is dragged from Idaho to a family summerhouse in New Hampshire. She leaves behind her friends, a group of freaks and geeks called the Leftovers, including her emo-rocker boyfriend, and her father.
By the time Labor Day rolls around, Marcie suspects this “vacation” has become permanent. She starts at a new school where a cute boy brings her breakfast and a new romance heats up. But understanding love, especially when you’ve watched your parents’ affections end, is elusive. What does it feel like, really? can you even know it until you’ve lost it?
About Sarah Tregay (from sarahtregay.com):
Raised without television, I started writing my own middle grade novels after I had read all of the ones in the library. I later discovered YA books, but never did make it to the adult section. When I’m not jotting down poems at stoplights, I can be found hanging out with my “little sister” from Big Brothers Big Sisters or stressing over performance classes at a model horse show.
I have both a Bachelors and Masters of Fine Art in graphic design, and my obsession with typography and layout naturally translates into formatting poetry on the page.
I live in Eagle, Idaho with my husband, two Boston Terriers, and an appaloosa named Mr. Pots.

I’m right there with you on the kitchen. Mine ends up being the cleanest room in the house more times than not!
