Book Summary from Goodreads.com:
As contemporary poets sing the glories of birds, birch trees, and menstruation, regular guys are left scratching their heads. Who can speak for Everyman? Who will articulate his love for Xbox 360, for Mama Celeste’s frozen pizza, for the cinematic oeuvre of Bruce Willis?
Enter Broetry—a stunning debut from a dazzling new literary voice. “Broet Laureate” Brian McGackin goes where no poet has gone before—to Star Wars conventions, to frat parties, to video game tournaments, and beyond. With poems like “Ode to That Girl I Dated for, Like, Two Months Sophomore Year” and “My Friends Who Don’t Have Student Loans,” we follow the Bro from his high school graduation and college experience through a “quarter-life crisis” and beyond.
Steve Review:
This is not my normal book. I did actually ask for it though. I’m not real big into poetry (who woulda guessed that?!) but this book looked fun so I wanted to try it out. It’s contemporary poetry with guys in mind as the target audience. You know, the normal kind of book that ChickLovesLit reviews every day!
It did not disappoint. I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats. I’ve never seen Cats, so definitely better. I’m still not totally into poetry or anything, but I did enjoy around 10 or so of them especially. The haiku’s and stuff like that (you can clearly tell with my detailed technical jargon that I’m a poetry buff by now) were a bit over my head and I didn’t enjoy them as much but meh, still good stuff. I passed the book along to another friend who also enjoyed it. So hats off to you Mr. McGackin!
Yay contemporary month! Steve has read like 2 contemporary books ever, so while this poetry book is kind of a stretch Shanyn nicely allowed it. Thanks sweetie ;) See you guys (girls) sometime later this month with another book that was actually legitimate contemporary.
Points Scale:
I didn’t feel like a points scale was appropriate this time because it didn’t really have the normal elements of a traditional book. 3.5 stars out of 5. And easily the best book of poetry I’ve ever read.

This book sounds hilarious! I wonder if teachers will pick it up and teach it on class, you know for when you have to “analyze” poetry (which for me, it was a pain), so it would be a good time for the class.
