1. What is your favorite household chore?
That’s tough. All my favorite chores are outdoor chores and are things I don’t do anymore since I sold the farm in Ireland. I used to love mucking out the chicken pens. Loved it. I liked mowing, too. Especially in designs. Even with a push mower. I liked everything to do with the gardens, even weeding. But inside the house, I don’t like many chores. I used to have a Zen thing with the laundry but that died. I don’t mind washing dishes

anymore but I used to really really hate it. I roughly dislike both vacuuming and cleaning bathrooms. Does working count? If so, that’s my favorite household chore. Who needs a clean house when all you ever see is a computer screen?

2. Where is the last place you went on an airplane?
Omaha, Nebraska.

3. How many toppings do you order on pizza?
The only topping I might add is pepperoni. For the most part, I eat mine plain. Or white. (So, zero. Or -1.)

4. What time do you generally eat breakfast?
Anytime between 9 and never. There is no structure when it comes to me and breakfast.

5. Describe your favorite pair of shoes.
My favorite pair of shoes is a pair of Doc Marten boots that go all the way up my knees. They’re brown with a strange seam down the front and though they looked really odd in the picture online when I bought them, they turned out to be the most comfortable pair of shoes ever.

About Everybody Sees the Ants:
Lucky Linderman didn’t ask for his life. He didn’t ask his grandfather not to come home from the Vietnam War. He didn’t ask for a father who never got over it. He didn’t ask for a mother who keeps pretending their family is fine. And he certainly didn’t ask to be the recipient of Nadar McMillan’s relentless bullying, which has finally gone too far.

Lucky has a secret—one that helps him wade through the daily dysfunction of his life. Grandad Harry, trapped in the jungles of Laos, has been visiting Lucky in his dreams—and the dreams just might be real: an alternate reality where he can be whoever he wants to be and his life might still be worth living. But how long can Lucky remain in hiding there before reality forces its way inside?

  1. I am not a fan of vacuuming either! I’m thinking it has most to do with the dust but also the fact that the cleaner itself is heavy and hard to navigate. UGH

  2. Pretty sure cleaning is something that only happens on the full moon for me. Vaccuuming is the easiest thing to do, but for some reason I too have an aversion to it.

    Lucky’s story looks very interesting.

  3. I would have never thought mucking chicken pens was something that you could like…I actually like vacuuming and laundry the most. I HATE emptying the dishwasher and cleaning bathrooms.

  4. Cannot WAIT to dive into this book. Everything I read about it keeps making it sound better and better.

And your fav was the chickens?!?! When I was 15, I went out to feed them one more, and one clucked so loud, I jumped…and landed right in the barbed wire fence. Kinda lost my enthusiasm for the loud feather factories ever since.

    Smiles!
