Book Summary from Goodreads.com:
Ava is welcomed home from the hospital by a doting mother, lively friends, and a crush finally beginning to show interest. There’s only one problem: Ava can’t remember any of them – and can’t shake the eerie feeling that she’s not who they say she is.

Ava struggles to break through her amnesiac haze as she goes through the motions of high-school life, but the memories that surface take place in a very different world, where Ava and familiar-faced friends are under constant scrutiny and no one can be trusted. Ava doesn’t know what to make of these visions, or of the boy who is at the center of them all, until he reappears in her life and offers answers . . . but only in exchange for her trust.

Review:
I knew that As I Wake was not a typical Elizabeth Scott contemporary, but I wanted to read it all the same because I love Elizabeth Scott. And the cover is awesome.

What I didn’t realize was how much of a mind bender As I Wake would be – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Half the time I was wondering what was really going on, and half the time I was wondering how Elizabeth Scott could come up with something so intricate and different.

I don’t want to give anything away about this book – just know that it is not contemporary. It could be considered dystopian I suppose, though I’m not sure how it is officially classified. It has trademark Elizabeth Scott emotion, and the writing flows just as I always expect from Scott – but it’s not a typical story.

Books like As I Wake show the true versatility of writers like Scott. It’s not going to be a good fit for everyone, but the pure imagination that went into the plot and characters of Scott’s latest made it a great read for me – and one I couldn’t put down because I wanted to know what was going on.

  4. I agree with your last sentences that this book may not be for everyone. I couldn’t enjoy it, to be honest. The writing style is too confusing for me, not to mention that there are many repetitive sentences.

I couldn’t understand the story, at all.

    Great review! :)
