Read Your Own Books Month!

Hello fellow readers!

Myself, along with a few fellow bloggers, have declared September Read Your Own Books Month!

What does this mean? It’s time to read what you want! Many of us have obligations – if you’re a blogger, you might have towering stacks of review copies that are constantly beckoning you. If you’re an avid library user, you may have a huge pile of books you’re trying to read before their due date. September is dedicated to reading those books you’ve purchased and have been sitting on your shelves!

I realize that everyone has different obligations, reading schedules, and books to read. To participate in this month (at least along with me and my blog), all I ask is that you commit to a certain level – one that works for you! I am going to base them on animals because I like them :)

Mouse – One book
Cat – 2-3 books
Giraffe – 4-6 books
Tiger – 7-10 books
Dragon –  11+

So, pick a level with the number of your own books (books you have purchased that are on your shelf) that you think you will be able to read in September, make a blog post about it, and link it up! Throughout the month stop here on Thursdays for more Read Your Own Books Month fun, and be sure to stop by the other host blogs to see what they have going on!

Monday - Wastepaper Prose
Wednesday - Teresa’s Reading Corner
Friday - Bookalicious

  2. Ha! I was thinking of doing this exact thing! I just sorted through and cleaned off my many book shelves yesterday (they look great now). As I was doing this I thought “I really need to read some of these books and get them off my shelves.” I thought it would be great if I could do a whole mo0nth with only reading books from my shelves.

It was like you were reading my mind!!!! Freaky!

So, let me think about it, get a post ready, and get back to you.

This is such a good idea! I think I am going to unofficially take on this challenge at the Giraffe level… I say unofficially because I really don’t want to fail, and if I don’t officially take on this challenge and blog about it, I won’t go crazy if I don’t make it… I know, kind of the easy way out. But I have dozens and dozens of books on my shelf that need to be read! I have been really selective about review books lately so that I can get to some that have been sitting on my shelf… we’ll see what happens.

  4. I’m doing this dragon level, because I’m awesome. I also did a vlog where I talked about the books I’ll be reading.

Awesome concept Shanyn and Pam! :-)

I love this idea! I’d probably have to go for mouse level, though. Life is crazy these days and time for reading anything, much less just the things I want, is rare. But the idea of reading whatever I want in September is beautiful.

I am choosing to do Giraffe but will try to get to Tiger.

Just heard about this on Wendy’s blog. I desperately need this after visits to Borders. I’m going to aim for Cat but, if I can get to Giraffe, I will.
