Book Summary:
When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.
Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive – this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone’s out for blood.
Review:
I was so excited to read Bloodlines that I didn’t want to start reading it because then my excitement would be over. It beckoned to me over and over again from my shelf, though, and eventually I gave in.
The fact of the matter is, I simply love Richelle Mead’s writing. Vampire Academy is certainly not a series I would ever have picked up without a recommendation, and Bloodlines is the same – I’m not a paranormal/vampire girl, as most of you know. Vampire Academy is, however, one of my all time favorite series, and it is all due to Richelle Mead – and her magic is back in Bloodlines.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Adrian in Vampire Academy, and Sydney didn’t really win me over either (she makes some pretty ridiculous decisions in Bloodlines but I had to keep reminding myself she is young). Regardless, Mead’s way of writing together action, relationships, and secrets totally wins me over every time.
Bloodlines shows hints of Vampire Academy, which I loved. If I hadn’t read Vampire Academy before Bloodlines, I may have been confused, because the world she created in the first series is pretty intricate – but Bloodlines is meant as a companion/standalone series, so if you haven’t read VA you should be okay.
I’m so happy to have another Mead series to look forward to, since VA finished last year. I am even contemplating reading her adult books because I love her writing so much. I can’t wait for Bloodlines #2!

I started reading Richelle Mead through her succubus series, and I have to say that it’s one of my all time favorites. I like VA but not like the succubus series. Maybe it depends on which series you started first, IDK.

I can’t believe I still haven’t read the VA books. I plan to eventually. Do I need to read the VA books before Bloodlines, or are the series independent of one another?
