Book Summary:
Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.
She’s wrong.
Review:
After meeting the author of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer at the Book Blogger Convention in May, I had an immediate strong urge to read the book. Michelle Hodkin is nice, personable, and, most importantly, very secret about the contents of her book, which naturally gets a person very interested.
Simon and Schuster were kind enough to bring many copies of this book to the convention, so I was able to walk away with one with immediate intention to read it – and I did. And I loved it.
The writing style of Michelle flows so naturally, from scene to scene. You’re inside the head of Mara Dyer throughout the entire book, which is refreshing as many books I’ve read lately are from multiple perspectives. I immediately latched on to Mara and her thoughts, and desperately wanted to know what was going on – which kept me reading well into the night.
I’m not one to spoil anything, and I’m not going to start now because I believe it would take away from the book. Going in with a clean slate will give you the same experience I had (so, seriously, don’t go looking for a place to spoil things for yourself). The mystery and the romance had my emotions running amuck, and I want you to discover things as Mara does (which is how the author intended you to).
There isn’t much more I can say without ruining parts of the book, but I do want to make it clear that this is an excellent read. The cover has drawn many people in, and the content is even better. It’s a wonderful review, and if you have the chance to meet Michelle Hodkin, I would highly encourage you to – she is awesome. Loved this book.

I think I read somewhere that the publisher and author are considering re-writing the ending of this book because of the confusion everyone seems to have about it…I haven’t read it because I don’t have a copy, but I really want to. I think in this case, all of the talk about the confusion at the end between the bloggers with ARC’s has taken away from the book. I have wanted to read it from day one, even before everyone came home with it from BEA, but now with all the talk out there, and the talk of the possible re-write, I’m just disheartened that I might not get to see the story as the author intended.
At any rate, thank you so much for writing your thoughts without spoiling it. This is the first write-up or comment I’ve seen about this book that was purely, 100% without spoilers. I really appreciate that.
