1. If you could participate in the Olympics, what event would you like to participate in?The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab
Swimming. I often say I tell stories to the blue stripe on the swimming pool floor. It’s kept me sane…relatively sane.

2. What is your favorite winter accessory?
SCARVES. I LOVE SCARVES. Um, sorry, I get a little excited. But I probably have 20-30 scarves. I wear them with coats. COATS. I love coats, too. I’m kind of a winterling at heart.

3. Tell us about a birthday party from your childhood.
When I was five my mom thought it would be epic to have a Bozo-the-clown themed party even though there is nothing in the world that unsettles me more than clowns. Everything was clown-themed. The trauma. I swear she did it on purpose. I’m not sure I was an easy five-year-old.

4. What is the most interesting thing currently on your desk?
The most interesting thing on my desk is…well, I’ll let you decide. I currently have a polka-dotted narwhal, a banana, a swirls doodle, a “to-do” list that is way, way, way too long to ever become a “done” list, and a crocheted witch given to me at a conference :)

5. How many pieces of jewelry do you normally wear?
One. A thin ring with three layers, a band of silver, a band of black, a band of silver. My mother gave it to me while we were out Christmas shopping several years ago, and I never took it off. I also have two pieces I wear when I’m dressing up: a wide solid silver ring, and a locket (given to me by Leah Clifford) with a tree and a gem and a crow.

More about The Near Witch:
The Near Witch is only an old story told to frighten children.

If the wind calls at night, you must not listen. The wind is lonely, and always looking for company.

And there are no strangers in the town of Near.

These are the truths that Lexi has heard all her life.

But when an actual stranger—a boy who seems to fade like smoke—appears outside her home on the moor at night, she knows that at least one of these sayings is no longer true.

The next night, the children of Near start disappearing from their beds, and the mysterious boy falls under suspicion. Still, he insists on helping Lexi search for them. Something tells her she can trust him.

As the hunt for the children intensifies, so does Lexi’s need to know—about the witch that just might be more than a bedtime story, about the wind that seems to speak through the walls at night, and about the history of this nameless boy.

I love Victoria! She is adorable. I’m also a scarf addict, as we know. And I love the use of the word winterling. Well done!
