Picture the scene: Dother Hall performing arts college somewhere Up North, surrounded by rolling dales, bearded cheesemaking villagers (male and female) and wildlife of the squirrely-type. On the whole, it’s not quite the showbiz experience Tallulah was expecting… but once her mates turn up and they start their ‘FAME! I’m gonna liiiiive foreeeeeever, I’m gonna fill my tiiiiights’ summer course things are bound to perk up. Especially when the boys arrive. (When DO the boys arrive?) Six weeks of parent-free freedom. BOY freedom. Freedom of expression…cos it’s the THEATRE dahling, theatre!!
Review:
I hope that when you hear Louise Rennison, you instantly think HILARIOUS (because of her Georgia Nicolson books). And if you haven’t read Georgia’s books, now would be a good time to do so – or you can start with her new series, which begins with Withering Tights!
Because it is equally as hysterical.
Most of the books I have been reading lately have had more serious plots and characters, so I had a lot of fun reading Withering Tights. It’s set in Europe, where Talullah is attending a school of arts. Talullah, of course, isn’t much good at ‘the arts’ in general, and not very experienced with boys, so we get to follow along on many hilarious journeys.
I’m going to tell you straight up that this isn’t the book for you if you’re looking for deep meaning – Talullah and her friends do learn some things, but Withering Tights is much more memorable for the laughs than the lessons… which is a book we could all use in our lives.
I’m really pumped that Withering Tights is the beginning of a new series from Louise Rennison and that it’s just as funny as Georgia Nicolson (Talullah, in fact, is Georgia’s cousin)! Fans of funny (and Georgia in particular) will love Withering Tights.

UHM YES! I’ve read and reread the Georgia Nicolson series at least ten times. I bought Withering Tights when it came out in the UK last year (yay book depo!) and cannot wait for book 2. Glad other people are reading it – great review, Shanyn!

I’m so glad to hear that this book lives up to the Georgia series! I was afraid it might not be as funny. I’m really looking forward to it now
