Review:
I haven’t read Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher (I KNOW I KNOW), but a lot of my friends were very excited about The Future of Us at Book Expo America, which is a Jay Asher/Carolyn Mackler book, so I decided to get in on the excited feeling.
The Future of Us was a really fun read. The basic premise is that our two characters (whose perspective we flip between chapter to chapter) discover Facebook on their computer, and Facebook and all of the information on it is from fifteen years in the future (they don’t even know what Facebook is, in fact). They start to notice that little changes they make in their lives affect how their Facebook future selves end up (mainly due to Facebook status updates from their future selves), and as you can imagine the ability to know the future messes with them a bit.
I loveeeeeeedddd reading a book written in the era of my childhood. Little details like how DVDs were starting to get introduced at the video store made me so delighted because it’s not often you read a book set in that particular time frame. The characters are likable, too – and quite believable. It made me question if I would try to change things if I wasn’t happy with how my future self looked.
I went into The Future of Us with no expectations, because I didn’t know much about the book, and ended up having a lot of fun. It was refreshing for me to read a contemporary with a twist that is not related to a paranormal element.

I really enjoyed this one, too! It was definitely fun to read about the era of my childhood, too. I remember when the Internet was this whole crazy new thing that no one really understood or had, and slowly it became . . . well, what it is now: an ever-present fixture in our lives! (And awesome.) It was fun shifting between Josh and Emma’s perspectives.

After reading ‘Thirteen Reasons Why’ I had high expectations for this book! Yes, it is a different genre but I expected it to be something… more than it was. I don’t recommend it. Anyone want a copy? :p
