Book Summary:
One hour to rewrite the past . . .
For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.
So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.
Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?
Review:
When I first saw the cover for Hourglass, I will admit – I didn’t want to read it because the cover kind of freaked me out. I knew nothing about the book; I’m just a wussy. Weird stuff like that gets to me. BUT. It started being one of those books that readers loved and everyone wanted, so of course the buzz got to me and I decided to give it a go.
Um, woah?
Beginning of the book starts off tame enough, explaining our surroundings, Emerson (our narrator), where she is living, her brother and his wife. Things start to get a little crazy after that because she can see people that no one else can see and then you’re thinking WHAT IS GOING ON. That pretty much continues from there (and it’s a GOOD thing, don’t worry. It’s not that weird confusion where you keep reading just because you aren’t sure what else you’re supposed to do).
The first half of the book is awesome. The second half? Breathtaking. Excellent. Wonderful.
Myra McEntire weaves everything together in such a way that you are shocked over and over again, chapter after chapter. It isn’t just one big HEY moment, it’s many, over and over, throughout the whole thing.
Oh, you like romance? There is some of that, too. Well, not just some – there is strong, POWERFUL romance. So don’t worry about that. When the crazy part of the book doesn’t keep you reading, Emerson and her relationships will.
Hourglass is an excellent, mind bending book. It twists the way you think of things, tugs at your heartstrings, makes you laugh (Emerson is quite sassy). This is one book I will be recommending over and over again this summer, undoubtedly!

Everyone keeps talking about this one, so I guess I’m going to have to read it!
I don’t normally love paranormal, but I’m thinking I might give this one a chance when I’m really feeling that paranormal vibe.
