Book Summary:
According to her guidance counselor, fifteen-year-old Payton Gritas needs a focus object-an item to concentrate her emotions on. It’s supposed to be something inanimate, but Payton decides to use the thing she stares at during class: Sean Griswold’s head. They’ve been linked since third grade (Griswold-Gritas-it’s an alphabetical order thing), but she’s never really known him.

The focus object is intended to help Payton deal with her father’s newly diagnosed multiple sclerosis. And it’s working. With the help of her boy-crazy best friend Jac, Payton starts stalking-er, focusing on-Sean Griswold . . . all of him! He’s cute, he shares her Seinfeld obsession (nobody else gets it!) and he may have a secret or two of his own.

Review:
Payton is a great character to connect with, which is a vital part of a contemporary. She loves office supplies (ME TOO!), and is trying to cope with the news that her father isn’t as healthy as she thought.

Lindsey Leavitt does an excellent job of mixing serious (the multiple sclerosis and family issues) with the funny (quips and fun situations). As you may have been able to predict, there is also a good amount romance in this book, and it’s a lot of fun.

Payton is told to get a focus object, and once she chooses the head of the boy that sits in front of her, she starts to want to learn more about him. I loved all of the awkward moments between Sean and Payton. Actually, let me rephrase:

It was ADORABLE.

I was grinning to myself every time Sean and Payton were together, especially when Payton would learn something new about Sean or he would talk about biking or invite her to go.

Very cute, fun, awesome contemporary. I hope that Lindsey Leavitt has more in the contemporary genre up her sleeve, because I’d love to read another!
