Book Summary:
Still haunted by nightmares of her mother’s death, fifteen-year-old Sienna Jones reluctantly travels to Indonesia with her father’s relief team to help tsunami orphans with their post traumatic stress disorder—something Sienna knows a lot about. Since her mother’s plane went missing over the Indian Ocean three years before, Sienna doesn’t do anything if it involves the ocean or planes, so this trip is a big step forward.
But the last thing she expects is to fall for Deni, a brooding Indonesian boy who lives at the orphanage, and just so happens to be HOT. When Deni hears a rumor that his father may be alive, Sienna doesn’t think twice about running away with him to the epicenter of the disaster. Unfortunately, what they find there could break both their hearts.
Review:
I went into Sea thinking that I would probably like it pretty well. There were lots of recommendations out for it – enough that I drove to a very far away library to get it
When I go into a book thinking I’d like it enough and then I like it even MORE it gets an extra thumbs up from me. So here it is: Extra thumbs up, Sea!
Sienna is someone you start to feel right from the beginning. Her mother has died, and as you watch her deal with it it kind of pulls at your heartstrings.
The setting of Indonesia is what I liked the most about Sea. I don’t think the story would have had the same impact if it were in a normal small town US setting. Learning about the culture and having Sienna in different surroundings made it more special, especially since she had to learn about Indonesia as well as deal with her emotions (which were a wide range – death of her mother, being there with her father, and the boy she meets).
If you’re looking for a culturally different book, or perhaps one with a different type of romance, you should try Sea!

Yay! Courtney Summers is one of my favorite authors. She hits realistic/contemporary dead on!
I’ve had this on my Kindle since it was first released! I REALLY need to read it. Happy to see that you liked it!
