1. If you could bring back one fashion fad, what would you choose?Love Story by Jennifer Echols This is going to sound weird because I think this was a local fad, but…have you ever heard of Panama Jack Suntan Lotion? Panama Jack long-sleeve T-shirts were all the rage at my junior high school in Alabama. I think people were going down to the beach and buying them at the tourist trap souvenir shops. The T-shirts said “Panama Jack” on the front, and on the back there was a big cartoon of Panama Jack’s head. Like all fads, this one made absolutely no sense except that everybody in town had a Panama Jack shirt but me. My mother would not buy me one because it was “highway robbery to pay twenty dollars for a T-shirt.” Eventually she broke down and bought me one, but it was a three-quarter sleeve version, and the colors weren’t as pretty—it was probably a knock-off—and by then the Panama Jack T-shirt craze had been over for months.

Come back, Panama Jack. I totally have twenty dollars of my own money that I can spend on you now.

2. What television show do try to never miss?
Mythbusters! I know I am a YA author and I am supposed to be watching Gossip Girl or something. Is that still on?

3. What room do you enjoy most in your house?
I have a beautiful screened-in porch. It’s on the second story, up in the trees, and it’s wonderful for writing.

4. Describe your ideal movie plot.
I am a sucker for romantic comedies that aren’t sappy, and action movies that have a strong romance plot. One of my all-time favorite movies is Point Break, the bank-robbing surfer movie!

5. What is your favorite color?
Blue. I love color and I try to branch out, but if I have a choice of buying something in several different colors, I always pick the blue one.

More about Love Story, coming July 19, 2011 from MTV Books:
Erin Blackwell is headed to college in New York City to study creative writing and earn a living as a romance novelist. Her grandmother has other plans: she approves of the college, but she wants Erin to major in business and then come back home to Kentucky to run the family’s famous racehorse farm. There is no way Erin will agree. Studying in New York and writing her way into a career is her escape from the farm and the family tragedy that happened there. So Erin’s grandmother decides Erin really will live life as a starving artist. She takes Erin’s future job running the farm, her inheritance, even her college tuition, and gives them all to Hunter Allen.

Hunter has lived on the farm for years. He’s Erin’s age, he’s the stable boy, and he’s the romantic dream of every girl in her high school. But he was involved in the family tragedy. Erin has always given him a wide berth. And he’s a slick opportunist. She’s furious that he fooled her grandmother into giving him Erin’s birthright and sending him to Erin’s college.

At least she’s free of him in her creative writing class. So she pens a story that has haunted her lately, in which the horse farm heiress at the very first Kentucky Derby starts a forbidden affair with the lowly stable boy. Unfortunately for her, the day she’s sharing this story with her New York classmates, Hunter walks in. He’s switching to her class. And after reading about himself in Erin’s story, he writes his own sexy assignments that lure Erin into dangerous fantasies about what could have been between them, and what might be.

  3. OMG story of my life with trends. My parents were cheap too, although the Panama Jack thing was never a trend here. Our big trend was those stupid Express t-shirts with the X on them.
