Book Summary:
Sometimes there’s no turning back.

Amber’s life is spinning out of control. All she wants is to turn up the volume on her iPod until all of the demands of her family and friends fade away. So she sneaks off to the beach to spend a day by herself.

Then Amber meets Cade. Their attraction is instant, and Amber can tell that he’s also looking for an escape. Together they decide to share a perfect day: no pasts, no fears, no regrets.

The more time that Amber spends with Cade, the more she’s drawn to him. And the more she’s troubled by his darkness. Because Cade’s not just living in the now–he’s living each moment like it’s his last.

Review:
Lisa Schroeder writes in verse. She chooses her words carefully, forming beautiful sentences and phrases with no extraneous details or words.

In short, her work is excellent.

Amber’s story is told through her voice and the letters of other individuals in her life, flipping back and forth. As you progress through the novel, you are rewarded with bits of information that help you to understand Amber and Cade – you start with basic details and eventually go much, much deeper.

The relationship between Amber and Cade is real and emotional, and their development together will strike a chord with any reader.

This will, without a doubt, be one of my favorite books this year. If you are looking for a book to pre-order, this is one that should immediately go on your list!

Stopping by from the Saturday Situation.

  5. I’ve read some of Lisa Schroeder’s other books and they’ve been on both ends for me – I loved some and I not-so loved some. Verse is hard to be successfull at but overal I think she is. I’ve been wanting to read this one for some time. Great Review!

  6. I agree that this book was excellent. It was so excellent that as soon as I finished I immediately started rereading it. I love all of Lisa’s books, but I really felt like her words were extra powerful in this one. I Heart You You Haunt Me was my favorite before and this one might actually be as good as that one, which I didn’t think was possible.

    • I wanted to reread this one immediately again too – but I didn’t. Though I am positive I will in the future and I normally do not care to reread! I have only read I Heart You, You Haunt Me and The Day Before – both were great, I agree! This one is one of my favorite reads of the year.
