1.      Describe your favorite blanket.Illegal by Bettina Restrepo
My favorite blankets belong to my son.  Woobie is a soft yellow cotton.  We’ve had three replicas, and two of them are *somewhere* in the world.  When we lost Woobie #2, we were in an airport and desperate.  I bought a blue and brown stripe cotton similar in feel and told my son,  “This is Bob.  Woobie’s sister (version 2) sent him to keep Woobie company.”

I’ve created many adventures of Woobie and Bob, and the site of them always make me smile.

2.      What type of berry do you enjoy most?
Blackberries bought on the side of the road for $5 a coffee can near Hempsted, Texas.  I think they might be wild, but, I just drool thinking about them come springtime.

3.      What is the farthest you have traveled from your home?
The Southern tip of Argentina.  Patagonia!

4. How many movies do you see each month (generally)?
Does it count if we play Star Wars over and over again?  If not 3-4 on cable.

5. Which celebrity would you love to have dinner with?
Zach Braff.  He’s kinda-of my secret imaginary boyfriend, although he doesn’t know it.  I like goofy-looking guys who make me laugh.  If he isn’t available, I’ll take Steve Martin for the same reason.

More about Illegal:
Nora is on a desperate journey far away from home. When her father leaves their beloved Mexico in search of work, Nora fights to make sense of her loss while waiting for her father’s return and a better day. When the letters and money from her father stop coming, Nora decides that she and her mother must look for him in Texas. After a harrowing experience crossing the border, the two are all alone in a strange place called Houston. Now, Nora figures out how to survive while still aching for small comforts: friends, a new school, and a quinceañera to mark her fifteenth birthday.

  2. USA. And if I had no idea what had happened to my family — yes. I’d need answers.

      Gae- you are a mess.
Mari Cari – I never know when I’ll find those people out on 290. Just look on the side of road with people with cardboard signs and big coffee cans!
Kelsey and Jamad – yeah for international!
Wendy – crossing into Canada is just as hard. “Ask me no questions” – great book.

Nancye – not trite at all, you should see what I do to Nora in chapter 11!

  3. I would definitely cross a border illegally to save my family. It’s human nature to want to survive despite the laws developed by man.

    • Vivien,
My mother is orginally from germany. She came over in 1963 after she met my father in the army. He is Colombian and enetered the US military to earn citizenship!

  32. United States. If I was all by myself in some country (even the USA) and my family was in some other country. I’d become the Cheese, grab my bike, and go find them (after packing a survival pack, and maybe DVRing a couple seasons of Man vs. Wild). There’s no way I’d sit there twidling my thumbs when I know my family is out there, and I’ve always wanted to go on a dangerous adventure (ever since I started reading). The real question is wether I’d take someone with me.
