1. What is your perfect outdoor temperature?Amy and Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
My perfect outdoor temperature, is probably somewhere in the mid-60s. I know this is strange.  But I like weather, especially this time of year, when you can bundle up in a coat and hat, but aren’t freezing when you’re walking around outside. It’s just wintry enough.  This might, I realize, be a response to being an East Coast transplant in Los Angeles. It will be 75 this week, and it’s December. And that’s just WRONG.

2. How many pets have you had in your lifetime?
Just one! I grew up with a bichon frise but haven’t had a pet since. I’m hoping, if my next apartment is pet-friendly, to venture into the (heretofore unexplored) world of cat-owning…

3. What is your favorite candy?
These showed up in Amy & Roger – I LOVE Aba-Zabbas. Vanilla toffee with peanut butter inside.  How can you go wrong? And they can last for hours.  Whenever I’m going to be away from California for extended periods of time, I make sure to stockpile a bunch to take them with me.

4. Recommend a movie you’ve seen recently.
I just saw the latest Harry Potter and loved it.  It made me wish all the movies had been two-parters  And I’d had long arguments with my fellow Potterite friends about where they were going to break the first movie…and it turned out I was right, which was completely shocking, since that never happens.

5. Describe the contents of one of your desk drawers.
In my desk drawer (I only have one in my desk, so unfortunately it’s a bit overstuffed): Index cards, external hard drive, extra glasses, old MetroCard (why is this in there? Why? I don’t live in New York City any more. I haven’t for two years now. Sigh), padlock (I have no idea what that’s doing there. And the key, of course, is nowhere to be seen), business cards, stationary, passport, paper from Japan that’s much too pretty to write on, computer cords, headphones, push pins, and a souvenir deck of cards I bought at a gas station in Arkansas.

More about Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour:
Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew—just in time for Amy’s senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she’s always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road trip is Roger, the son of Amy’s mother’s old friend. Amy hasn’t seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she’s surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she’s coming to terms with her father’s death and how to put her own life back together after the accident. Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps from the road—diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards—this is the story of one girl’s journey to find herself.

Thank you for stopping by, Morgan!

  1. I adore Morgan…this was so fun to read!

  2. Great interview! Glad to read she is a fellow HP fan too!

  3. It’s definitely hard to be a transplant from the East Coast to a warmer climate. I was the same when I lived in Florida. Have to admit I’m not the cold weather girl Morgan seems to be but having seasons is definitely a wonderful thing.

  4. Just when I thought I couldn’t love Morgan ANY more…I HAVE a bichon frise and we had one when I was little, too! :P

But I have to disagree about the temperature..I like the heat and wish it could be 75 here right now! But alas, Pennsylvania weather doesn’t allow for that!

    Fun interview!
