Book Summary:
Anna was looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. So she’s less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris — until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all . . . including a serious girlfriend.

But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss? Stephanie Perkins keeps the romantic tension crackling and the attraction high in a debut guaranteed to make toes tingle and hearts melt.

Review:
I read enough books that I can get myself to stop at a reasonable hour so that I may go to bed. If I stayed up every night that I was reading a good book, I would have a poor sleep schedule.

Can you guess why I started off my review talking about sleeping? No? Maybe because I was up until 3 AM finishing this book. 3. AM. Generally I am a 11 PM sleeper. So this is kind of a big deal. In fact, the night that I stayed up that late was the night I was up early to go to a book trade show, which makes it even more extraordinary.

I love a good contemporary book, and Anna and the French Kiss certainly falls into this category. In fact, I would say this is a GREAT, AWESOME contemporary young adult book. Stephanie Perkins has writing that flows from one chapter to the other, from character to character, scene to scene. My emotions were on high alert, and my heart wouldn’t let me sleep until I finished and knew what came of Anna and her friends.

The romance and friendships in Anna and the French Kiss are beautifully written, and realistic – which is not always the case. I smiled, I laughed, I was worried, I was happy, I ached. I LOVED this book. I also like that it’s a December release because it would be great to read cozied up to a fire with a big blanket.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins is one of the top contemporary young adult books of 2010.

  5. I loved this book too! I’ve not been reading as much contemporary YA until lately and this one just completely knocked my socks off. St. Clare was swoonworthy and the love story so realistic and well paced. Fantastic read.
