Book Summary:
Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs back into his life – dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge – he follows.

After their all-nighter ends and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. But Q soon learns that there are clues – and they’re for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees of the girl he thought he knew.

Printz medalist John Green returns with the brilliant wit and searing emotional honesty that have inspired a new generation of listeners.

Review:
I waited a bit to read a John Green book because he is one of those famous YA authors that you hear about once you start getting recommendations from people and I didn’t want to be the only person (or seemingly the only person) that didn’t like his books.

Thankfully, I really adored Paper Towns.

When I read it, I wasn’t really sure what to expect – I knew that people loved John Green, but I wasn’t really sure why or what sort of writing style he had. I found his voice to be very clear, each of the characters developed fully, and the story detailed and long enough to be of interest, but not drawn out and described too much.

I really love how John Green describes the people and places and things in this book. I could exactly picture Margo and Quentin and their relationship to each other. Even sitting here writing this review several weeks later I can imagine scenes from the book with great clarity, which is not always the case with the number of books I read in a week.

I am looking forward to reading other John Green novels – I won Looking for Alaska from a contest (which readers seem to like even more than Paper Towns), and I also own Will Grayson, Will Grayson, which I have only heard great things about. Once I have read those I will give my recommendation on which John Green book is “the best,” but until then I think any of them are a safe bet.

John Green is a superb writer, but I find some of his themes and characters to be repetitive. Expect Looking For Alaska to be a more intense version of Paper Towns and you'll enjoy both.

  3. I Am The Angel

I agree he's repetitive. The talent's there, hopefully he'll find something more original and get that home run.
