Book Summary:
Nothing much happens in the sleepy town of Venus Cove. But everything changes when three angels are sent from heaven to protect the town against the gathering forces of darkness: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, a teenage girl who is the least experienced of the trio. They work hard to conceal their true identity and, most of all, their wings. But the mission is threatened when the youngest angel, Bethany, is sent to high school and falls in love with the handsome school captain, Xavier Woods. Will she defy the laws of Heaven by loving him? Things come to a head when the angels realize they are not the only supernatural power in Venus Cove. There’s a new kid in town and he’s charming, seductive and deadly. Worst of all, he’s after Beth.

Review:
Halo was a BEA book that many many people were very excited for… but until I was hanging around the booth with my roomie April, I hadn’t heard anything about it. Apparently the hype was over the cover (which I agree, is gorgeous). That was enough to pull me in, so I got a copy when they were set out at the booth.

Several people asked to borrow Halo, so it became one of my first BEA reads. It’s a VERY thick book, which was slightly intimidating. Luckily, I really enjoyed myself.

With a title like Halo you would expect the plot to be about angels… and you’d be right. I loved reading about the family of angels this book is based on – why they are at Earth, what they are doing, what it’s like to be an angel. They even talk about Heaven every once in awhile, but not in a way that ruins anyone’s idea of Heaven, which I particularly enjoyed.

This book was fairly slow moving as far as action, but I became so invested in the idea behind the angels and their mission that I didn’t mind one bit. Some of the plot is slightly predictable, but I didn’t mind that either.

Halo is part of a trilogy, and I am very happy about that (even though the other books don’t come out for months). It’s possible I would recommend this book slightly more for those of the Christian faith because of the obvious references, but in now way am I saying you shouldn’t read it if you are not in this demographic (you’ll see what I mean when you give it a try).

Halo is an excellent book that makes you think about angels and their role on Earth. I can’t wait for the next book!
