For fifteen-year-old Haven, life is changing too quickly. She’s nearly six feet tall, her father is getting remarried, and her sister—the always perfect Ashley—is planning a wedding of her own. Haven wishes things could just go back to the way they were. Then an old boyfriend of Ashley’s reenters the picture, and through him, Haven sees the past for what it really was, and comes to grips with the future.

Review:
Sarah Dessen is one of those authors that you can pick up when you’re looking for a guaranteed good YA read. All of the Dessen books I’ve read have had adorable romances and some family problems, and there’s this satisfied feeling I get every time I sit down with one of these stories.

That Summer was not one of my favorite Dessen novels, but that doesn’t mean that it was bad. Our characters are dealing with an upcoming wedding, which is the main source of stress throughout the novel. Unfortunately I read this book several months ago and am not able to recall many of the details, so I’m not going to try to discuss it any further.

If you have yet to read a Sarah Dessen book, I recommend that you do – read the plot summaries of each and pick the one that sounds best. You won’t be disappointed!

I've read two Dessen novels (Lock & Key and Along for the Ride). I didn't really like Lock & Key, but loved Along for the Ride. I've got this one sitting on my desk right now and plan to read it shortly. Because I loved one Dessen novel and didn't really dig the other, I'm nervous about reading this and having it turn me off of her other works.

Great review. I liked this one, but I agree that it wasn't one of my favorites.

This is a "new to me" author, but That Summer sounds like a decent read. Thanks, Shanyn :)

I agree. This one isn't bad but it was the third one I read after Dreamland and This Lullaby…it was no comparison to those too. I love her writing but I have to say I didn't enjoy this book. Maybe the concept, but that was about all. great review!

I definitely have not read this book yet, which is weird because I've read almost all of her books.

What is your favorite Dessen book? And why I am I asking you here when I could do it in G-Chat!!
