Book Summary:
WHY CAN’T YOU CHOOSE WHAT YOU FORGET . . . AND WHAT YOU REMEMBER?
There’s a lot Zoey would like to forget. Like how her father has knocked up his twenty-four- year old girlfriend. Like Zoey’s fear that the whole town will find out about her mom’s nervous breakdown. Like darkly handsome bad boy Doug taunting her at school. Feeling like her life is about to become a complete mess, Zoey fights back the only way she knows how, using her famous attention to detail to make sure she’s the perfect daughter, the perfect student, and the perfect girlfriend to ultra-popular football player Brandon.
But then Zoey is in a car crash, and the next day there’s one thing she can’t remember at all—the entire night before. Did she go parking with Brandon, like she planned? And if so, why does it seem like Brandon is avoiding her? And why is Doug—of all people— suddenly acting as if something significant happened between the two of them? Zoey dimly remembers Doug pulling her from the wreck, but he keeps referring to what happened that night as if it was more, and it terrifies Zoey to admit how much is a blank to her. Controlled, meticulous Zoey is quickly losing her grip on the all-important details of her life—a life that seems strangely empty of Brandon, and strangely full of Doug.

Review:
I don’t know if you can tell, but I read a lot of books. My friends in real life (hi Paul, CW, Andrew) all make comments about my books when they see me. They are stacked around our house (all of the stacks have a reason and purpose, even if it doesn’t seem that way!), and I generally enjoy the books I’m reading – I take time to research the plots and previous reviews before I commit to reading something (which is why most of my reviews lean towards the positive side).

However, that being said, I have not read a book in awhile that has made my normal life more difficult because I want to stop everything so I can keep reading.

Enough backstory for you? What am I getting at?

YOU’VE GOT TO READ FORGET YOU.

This was the first book by I’ve read by Jennifer Echols, which I was able to read through an ARC tour. We’ve got Zoey, who gets in a car accident and can’t remember what happened that night. We spend the book trying to figure that out by interacting with her swim team, her boyfriend, and, most importantly, DOUG.

Doug starts as a mysterious creature, who has a bad boy background. As you may be able to guess, he plays a large role in Zoey’s missing night, and we (delightedly) get to watch as she figures out why.

The relationships in this book are so deep and realistic I felt like I actually knew Zoey and Brandon and Keke and Doug. Their decisions and actions may have seemed ridiculous to me sometimes, but it was just like I was thinking my friend was doing something silly – it wasn’t unbelievable or outlandish.

One thing that did bug me – Zoey repeated a phrase and was slightly naive about an event in her life a little too much for me. I’d get more specific but I consider that a spoiler :) And you could probably convince me that she would act like that if it were a real situation, just got a little repetitive reading the words. The romance in this book is outstanding, the story is superb, and it’s a story you can’t put down.

Forget You is a must read, and one of my top books of 2010!
