Title: Shiver
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Publication Date: August 1, 2009

Book Summary:
For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can’t seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human … until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It’s her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human–or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

Review:
I asked for Shiver for Christmas (along with a long list of other books), and ended up getting it. It then sat on my shelf for 4 months because I knew it was supposed to be really good so I was saving it for when I needed a really good book to read.

I mostly do not read all parts of reviews before I read a book so that I don’t get any spoilers or don’t expect anything specific. Usually I just look at a book’s rating (if the blog does it) or read their last paragraph (which usually sums up how they felt about it).

WHICH MEANS (all of this build up for this, I know): I had NO IDEA the romance in this story was so intense. And that that was what the entire book was based on (yes yes, I knew that there was romance, but I underestimated the power of Maggie Stiefvater).

This book kept me emotionally involved from beginning to end; not just to where I cared about the story, but I CARED ABOUT THE STORY. (In caps. That’s the only way I can describe it.)

Yes, the story was good, it was fun, it was intricate. It was well written. There were action scenes. But the thing I really took away from Shiver was the powerful emotions I felt. And I’m going to stop trying to describe them.

You love romance/emotions/relationships, read Shiver. If you don’t like those things, do yourself a favor and read some other reviews on this book first before deciding to not read it.

I am currently reading this book and I have to say that I completely adore it so far. :) I really love your review on it and glad that you loved it as well.

By the way, just reading this review has me staring over at it beside me… I think I'll treat myself in a few to some reading if I can get another review up tonight. (I'm behind, and have one more before I'm caught up to SHIVER.)

    GREAT review! :)

I heard alot about this book. It is funny though how people can be"into" one thing and not "into" another. I am not really interested in werewolves or vampires, but I do love books about witches and magic and ghost stories!

You do make this book sound good though.
