Blog Trotting!

Apr 5, 2010 by

Today is a Michigan Blog Trotting day here on Chick Loves Lit! Not sure what that means? Stop over to their site – they feature bloggers from all over. It’s a great way to learn about other bloggers and the places they are living!
There are a few things that people think of when they hear someone is from Michigan.
1. Snow
2. Detroit/Cars

3. Our peninsulas

Maybe you don’t think of any of these things. Maybe we are simply a midwestern state that is surrounding by some lakes. I am here to share with you a few more Michigan facts!
State Bird: Robin
State Mammal: White-Tailed Deer
State Reptile: Painted Turtle
State Fish: Brook Trout
State Flower: Apple Blossom
State Tree: White Pine
State Stone: Petosky Stone
Michigan has the world’s largest limestone quarry (Rogers City), cement plant (Alpena), and manufacturer of magic supplies (Colon)!
At five miles, the Mackinac Bridge is one of the longest suspension bridges in the entire world, and took three years to build!
Standing anywhere in the state, the farthest you are from any Great Lake is 85 miles!
We have a lot of lighthouses (over 115)!
Battle Creek is considered the cereal capitol of the world!
Vernor’s Ginger Ale was created in Detroit and was the first soda created!
Michigan has the longest freshwater shoreline in the world!
We also are home to the Detroit Pistons, the Detroit Lions, the Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Red Wings!
I obviously could get into detail about many of the above things, but I think this is a good basic overview of our lovely state. If you’ve seen anything here that you are interested in in more detail, please feel free to let me know – I would be happy to do a Blog Trotting follow up post :)
Make sure you check out the other stops at Blog Trotting – there is lots of fun information about other bloggers and where they are living!

    Great tour of Michigan!

I used to work for an architectural firm that did some preliminary designs for the Kellogg Museum in Battle Creek, and I always thought that bit of Michigan history was interesting.

Thanks for BlogTrotting! I'll definitely be back to check out your reviews!

That was a fun post – thanks for the info. I have never been to Michigan :)

Wow! That was awesome! I loved reading that.
I so want to do this. Maybe just after the Read-a-thon this weekend.

What a fun post! So many facts I never knew (I do know that bridge – drove across it in a U-Haul when it was windy – a very memorable experience!)

A 5 mile bridge!! Suspension no less! I am thinking I would be getting sort of antsy after the first mile on it.
Never ever thought of your shoreline being so great either. Good statistics, think I might have to put Michigan on my destination list. A summer destination, that is. If I am brave enough, I may even attempt the bridge.
Thanks for the tour, now I think I should go read something:)

Vernor's Ginger Ale was created in Detroit and was the first soda created!

First what? I think she must mean pop. Yum Vernors!
