Review:
I picked up Wake and Fade at my local library mostly because I was simply shocked that my library even had them (later I found out that The Compulsive Reader, who also lives here, convinced them to buy them). They sat on my stack of library books for over a week, because I was afraid to read them – my expectations were set kind of high, plus dreams/dreaming/night/dark kind of scare me, and I won’t usually willingly read a book about things that make me uncomfortable.

One night, I felt like it was THE NIGHT I was supposed to read Wake. Apparently I was right. I was immediately sucked in to McMann’s world, and didn’t stop reading until it was over.

The concept still kind of creeps me out – a girl that sees other people’s dreams? How horrible it would be to be in that situation.

McMann’s creative plot kept me enthralled throughout. She did a great job of answering little questions you start to have, making the book feel more accomplished overall (because, really, this book could have left a lot of things up in the air… and it did, but not EVERYthing). I also enjoyed the interactions between Janie and a boy at her school… but I don’t want to give anything away.

Once I am finished with the series I will officially give my recommendations, but I’m guessing that I will be telling you to give this one a try. If not, at the very least, I will be telling you to read Wake.

I'm glad you liked it. I have only Gone left to read, and it's so sad because it is the last book.
