Review: Liar by Justine Larbalestier
Title: Liar
Author: Justine Larbalestier
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Publication Date: September 29, 2009
Book Summary:
Micah freely admits that she’s a compulsive liar. And that may be the one honest thing she’ll ever tell you. Over the years she’s duped her classmates, her teachers, and even her parents. But when her boyfriend, Zach, dies under brutal circumstances, the shock might be enough to set her straight. Or maybe not.
Especially when lying comes as naturally to her as breathing. Was Micah dating Zach? Or was Sarah his real girlfriend? And are the stories Micah tells about inheriting a “family gene” real or are they something that only exists in her mind?
Breathtaking in its plotting, and narrated by one of the most psychologically complex young
women to emerge since Sybil, Liar is a roller-coaster that will have listeners grasping for the truth. Honestly.
Review:
There were two big things about this book going around blogs before I had a chance to buy a copy. 1) The original cover’s model did not have the proper skin color for the character written in the book and 2) There is a big twist that no one would reveal as to not spoil it for anyone.
The first issue got resolved (hence the new cover), but the second one could not be solved until I read it for myself. There is indeed quite a bit twist, I will admit. I also will not, of course, ruin this twist for anyone, but I will say that it was not particularly my kind of twist (cryptic enough for you?). I enjoyed the writing style of Larbalestier and some of the story lines, but overall it didn’t end up being one of my favorite books like I expected – just wasn’t meant to be for me.

I don't think this book is for me either :)
I was really getting into the description, so I'm sorry to hear that it doesn't live up to expectations!
I have an award for you! Check it out: http://thebookishtype.blogspot.com/p/awards.html
It is a wild twist but overall I liked the book and Justine's writing style. I'm also so glad they changed the cover to match her description.
