Review: Jekel Loves Hyde by Beth Fantaskey
Title: Jekel Loves Hyde
Author: Beth Fantaskey
Publisher: Harcourt Children’s Books
Publication Date: May 3, 2010
To better her odds, Jill enlists the help of gorgeous, brooding Tristen Hyde, who has his own dark secrets locked away. As the team of Jekel and Hyde, they recreate experiments based on the classic novel, hoping not only to win a prize, but to save Tristen’s sanity. Maybe his life. But Jill’s accidental taste of a formula unleashes her darkest nature and compels her to risk everything – even Tristen’s love – just for the thrill of being… bad.
Jekel Loves Hyde was an interesting paranormal type read based on the Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde novel written in 1886. I was intrigued to read it originally because of the cover (I’ve got a thing for purple/green), and because I knew that a lot of people were looking forward to it. I had not read anything by Beth Fantaskey before (but had heard many good things)!
I was mildly disappointed after reading this. The story moved a little slow, and Jill was rather oblivious to a few things happened that I figured out right away (and trust me, I’m pretty good at ignoring clues so that I don’t ruin things in books and movies). I also got very confused in the beginning, trying to figure out if Tristen and Jill’s alternating chapters were happening at the same time or as flashbacks or as continuations of the story.
I also felt as though some of the situations weren’t as tense for me as the reader as they should have been – there are a few high anxiety scenes, but I rarely was glued to the page as much as I would have expected.
This was a solid read, and perhaps even better for someone who is a fan of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde. I would be very interested in reading Fantaskey’s first book, because the writing was good – I just didn’t connect with a few things in the story.

I was sort of looking forward to reading this, but now not so much :S
Her first book, Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, I really did enjoy … but there were parts in it that were a little strange, with characters behaving quite out-of-character for stupid reasons.
I saw this on Amazon and thought it sounded really good. Shame you were a bit disappointed.
I am looking forward to this book :)
