Title: Something, Maybe
Author: Elizabeth Scott
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Publication Date: March 24, 2009

Everyone thinks their parents are embarrassing, but Hannah knows she’s got them all beat. Her dad made a fortune showing pretty girls–and his “party” lifestyle–all over the Internet, and her mom, who was once one of her dad’s girlfriends, is now the star of her own website. After getting the wrong kind of attention for far too long, Hannah has learned how to stay out of sight…and that’s how she likes it.

Of course, being unknown isn’t helping her get noticed by gorgeous, confident Josh, who Hannah knows is her soul mate. Between trying to figure out a way to get him to notice her, dealing with her parents, and wondering why she can’t stop thinking about another guy, Finn, Hannah feels like she’s going crazy. She’s determined to make things work out the way she wants….only what she wants may not be what she needs.

I had not read any Elizabeth Scott and knew that I should… so when I was at the library and saw Something, Maybe, I knew I needed to give it a try.

The plot was actually a little more serious than I was imagining. Our main character, Hannah, is torn between a mother that doesn’t pay much attention to her and a father that only visits with her because of his own publicity. Each of these lives is well described, and I actually had some heartache for Hannah as she tried to find her place.

I also really enjoyed reading about the two boys/men in Hannah’s life – Josh and Finn. They all work together, and Hannah has to work her way through what characteristics and values are important to her and to her significant other. (My favorite scenes were those that happened while these three were at work!)

My overall feeling: I can’t wait to read the rest of Elizabeth Scott’s works. If you’re into YA and into relationships, it should be a crime if you haven’t at least tried one of her books.
