Title: Witch & Wizard
Author: James Patterson

The world is changing: the government has seized control of every aspect of society, and now, kids are disappearing. For 15-year-old Wisty and her older brother Whit, life turns upside down when they are torn from their parents one night and slammed into a secret prison for no reason they can comprehend. The New Order, as it is known, is clearly trying to suppress Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Being a Normal Teenager. But while trapped in this totalitarian nightmare, Wisty and Whit discover they have incredible powers they’d never dreamed of. Can this newly minted witch and wizard master their skills in time to save themselves, their parents–and maybe the world?

Hm. If I had to sum up this book in one word I don’t think I could do it any better than the word “Hm.” Well, Steve, that’s simply not a very descriptive word you say? Alright, well allow me to elaborate: Hm, this book was not what I expected but also not horrible? The book plot follows a fantasy thriller story of a teenage witch and wizard who discover that they have powers and are being persecuted because of it. Inventive? No. Still mildly entertaining? Yes. My main disappointment with this book simply stemmed from the fact that it was written for such a young age. I finished it in just a few hours and was left desiring more, and that was NOT due to the cliffhanger ending (Book 2 in this series is due out in less than a year). Young adult would be too lofty of a classification, in my opinion, and yet many children would not understand many of the plot elements throughout the book so I fail to understand what demographic is truly being aimed at. This all being said, I did not hate the book, I was not unhappy with the story plot or ending, I just wanted some more depth to it. Is this a must read? Far from it. Will I read the sequel? Hm.

THAT is exactly what I have heard about this book!
I was really disappointed when I read all the negative reviews for this book because it sounded so good, and James Patterson… come on!
I liked Steve's review – Hm…
I've heard witch & wizard is an awesome read, I'll certainly have to get a copy. As a publshed author of a fantasy trilogy, I welcome you to check out my latest book, The Magic of Fuller, book one, "Keeper of the Stone". http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/TheMagicofFullerBookOne-KeeperoftheStone.html
This sounds so good but some Patterson books have been disappointing lately. Most of them are still OK for a quick read but his old books were better. Thanks for your review Steve!
