Popular Gossip Girl character Jenny Humphrey is leaving Constance Billard to attend Waverly Academy, an elite boarding school in New York horse country where glamorous rich kids don’t let the rules get in the way of an excellent time.

Determined to leave her Manhattan past behind her, Jenny sets off to Waverly with big plans of reinventing herself. She’ll be a goddess – she’s a sophisticated city girl, after all! – and will find a boy who can properly worship her. But that’s going to be a little tricky since her self-absorbed new roommates, Callie Vernon and Brett Messerschmidt, aren’t exactly there to help – unless there’s something in it for them.

Hot guys, new intrigue, and delicious gossip add up to more trouble than ever for Jenny. But if getting caught with boys and going up against the Disciplinary Committee is what it takes, Jenny’s ready – she’ll do all that and more to become The It Girl.

Sooooo… I went to the Friends of the Library sale here in my town this past weekend and found the first four books in The It Girl series… naturally I bought them because 1) I’m a sucker for a series, 2) for some reason I love books about boarding schools, and 3) I’m on a Young Adult kick right now. I haven’t read any of the Gossip Girl series (I picked one of those up too… sadly it’s #5 or something), but I figured for 25 or 50 cents per book I couldn’t really go wrong.

The book is basically about a girl attending boarding school… she’s preppy, has a lot of money, etc. It didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would, perhaps because I figured going into it that it would be kind of like that. I will admit they describe fashion every once in awhile and I have a hard time following, but it’s not like that ruins the story.

Oh, and I’m not sure which character is pictured on the front, maybe I missed something? The model doesn’t seem to match up with how I have any of the characters in my head. The model on the front of number 2 doesn’t match anyone for me either.

I’ve already started the second one and am liking it more than the first – some of the girls are actually making decisions that I think make sense for their lives so far (some of the decisions made in The It Girl are ridiculous). It’s good for light reading in any case!
