Review: The Host by Stephenie Meyer
Title: The Host
Author: Stephenie Meyer
Publisher: Little, Brown and Company
Publication Date: May 6, 2008
Generally, the books I receive for review do not interest my fiance, Steve – but there was an exception when Hachette sent me a copy of The Host! He wasn’t immediately interested (usually when I get a book in the mail I thrust it in the air and talk about it for a few minutes, whether he is really listening or not), but all I really had to do was say “I think you’d like this one…” So, he read the synopsis and decided he would try it! Here is his review!
Hey guys, if you are looking for a book that you really can’t put down; pick up The Host! Steph Meyer picks up right where she left off with Twilight (they don’t let you forget that she wrote that trilogy either, note the print on the cover) and that really is the only drawback of the book. You can REALLY tell it’s the same author. I give her points for being inventive-ish with her ideas and plot but the grand scheme of it all, once you get settled in and understand the premise, it has few surprises and you seem to be able to figure out what’s going to happen before the characters have any clue.
That all being said, I was a fan of Twilight (shh don’t tell anyone!) and Steph’s character development in those books. The same is true for The Host and the characters are what keep you coming back for more. Real emotion, heartache, joy, and frustration are part of the chapter by chapter timeline and the book simply becomes hard to put down. Not once did I come to a chapter ending and think to myself, “Self, now is a good time to stop reading and pay attention to the world around you, while the book is in a nice lull.” Far from it, after the first couple chapters of introduction, the plot is a whirlwind of action, dialogue, and emotion twisting events.
It’s not a replacement for Twilight by any means, but I’m convinced this was a great way for Mrs. Meyer to come off the trilogy and begin some other projects. A couple rainy afternoons and the 600 pages of The Host will go by quickly and keep you hooked throughout. Thanks to Shanyn for letting me review a book (for the first time OMGosh I’m a CLL virgin!) and I hope to contribute in the future with some similar reviews in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Action genres. Any requests for Steve? Just email them to chickloveslit[at]gmail.com and we’ll see if we can hook you up. Don’t forget to enjoy The Host by Stephanie Meyer and check back later for Shanyn’s review of it!
So there you have it – a review from my fiance, Steve! He is up for writing another review, so let us know if you have any suggestions… and if you would like to read an excerpt from The Host, Stephenie has one on her website here.

What a great first review, Steve!
My hubby has started the Sookie Stackhouse series, so maybe I should get him reviewing on my blog!
