My Soul to Take – Rachel Vincent
Title: My Soul to Take
Author: Rachel Vincent
This copy was provided by the publisher for me to review.
Something is wrong with Kaylee Cavanaugh. She doesn’t see dead people, but…
She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.
Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who’ll be next…
I haven’t read a lot of paranormal type books, and never really thought I would get into them much (I’ve read Twilight and most of the Sookie Stackhouse series, but that’s all). In fact, I haven’t read much in the ‘fantasy’ genre at all, save Harry Potter and a few others. But I figured, hey, let’s try this, a lot of people like it a lot. So I did.
And what happened?
I loved it. More than I imagined. My Soul to Take is the first in the new Harlequin Teen line they are starting, and I think it was a great one to start with. I may have been surprised more because I don’t normally read this genre, so all of the ideas introduced to me were new, but I really loved the elements that were pulled together that seemed to fit with our ‘normal’ world.
After I read a few chapters, I went looking on the Internet and found out that there is actually a short prequel available as an ebook at the Harlequin Teen site… which isn’t imparative for you to read, but surely helps with understanding a few things Kaylee references.
Towards the end of the book, I was getting sad because I thought that all of the books from Harlequin Teen were going to be stand-alones, but in the back of My Soul to Take it mentions a sequel! Hooray! I’m on the quest for more similar stories – what a change from my reading habits a few months ago. I’m excited at all of the books with these themes that I now know I may really enjoy…
