Book Summary (From Amazon): Dune Road is another fun and fearless adventure that will take Green’s many fans from laughter to tears and back again. The novel is set in the beach community of a tony Connecticut town. Our heroine is a single mom who works for a famous—and famously reclusive—novelist. When she stumbles on a secret that the great man has kept hidden for years, she knows that there are plenty of women in town who would love to get their hands on it—including some who fancy the writer for themselves. Dune Road is the story of life in an exclusive beach town after the tourists have left for the summer and the eccentric (and moneyed) community sticks around. Dune Road will surely be the book to pack in beach bags next summer.

The only thing I really knew about this novel before I began reading was that it was supposedly a “beach read.” (I suppose I also knew it was by one of my favorite chick lit authors.) I will admit now that I have a horrible time with a lot of characters being introduced (this is true for both books and movies), which got me into trouble in the beginning of Dune Road. This instantly transformed it into a “summer read” rather than a “beach read” for me. (My distinction? Beach reads you can read a few pages, put down, pick back up in an hour, read a few more pages… summer reads are slightly more involved.)

All of this considered, I struggled a little in the opening chapters, attempting to keep characters straight with their personality and relationships. I’m not sure this is going to be a common theme for all that read it, though, because of my character disability.

After about 100 pages, I was hooked. Jane Green’s writing style picked up, intertwining characters and story lines, investing me in their well-being. There were the usual twists (one of my favorite things about Green), and many references that made it time specific (Facebook, President Obama). While I still think Jemima J is my favorite Green book (will anything ever beat it?), Dune Road is another solid addition to any collection.
