Size 12 is Not Fat – Meg Cabot

Title: Size 12 is Not Fat
Author: Meg Cabot

On one of the forums I regularly read, Meg Cabot gets mentioned every so often. The only book I had read of hers was Avalon High, which is a young adult book (i.e. not a good representation of how much I may like her adult books, in my opinion). I also was aware that she wrote the Princess Diaries series, but hadn’t read those (and I actually haven’t seen the movie yet, either, but plan on changing that… some day). But after a name gets mentioned so often, you start to wonder if there is perhaps something you are missing.

Yesterday at my local library (I’ve had a good streak there lately), I was browsing through, and decided to check out “Cabot,” to see what they had. Consequently, I found Size 12 is Not Fat, along with Size 14 is Not Fat Either. I immediately recognized both names as recommendations from my forum friends, and decided to check them out. It ended up being good news – I finished Size 12 earlier today, a little more than 24 hours after receiving it. Basic synopsis of the books is Heather Wells, a former child music sensation, ends up working at a college in the residence halls. A few months into her job, 2 girls are found at the bottom of one of the elevator shafts, and Heather is convinced that it’s not accidents. From there, we are introduced to another pop music star (who is Heather’s ex-boyfriend), that ex-boyfriend’s brother (who she now lives with, platonically), and a few other characters that keep you interested. I’m not sure if it’s because of the mystery nature of the book or Meg Cabot’s writing, but I was rather addicted to finishing it (and finding out the culprit).

I liked this one too…it was my first time reading Cabot and I'll definitely be back for more. I found the story to be light-hearted and fun (despite the murder mystery in the middle).
